Nanuku Introduces ‘Ki Na Kalokalo’ Private Island Camping

Pacific Harbour, Fiji – With an emphasis very much on rustic and soulful, Nanuku Auberge Resort Fiji has expanded its already top-heavy list of exclusive client activities to a whole new level with private island camping.

The ‘Ki na kalokalo’ (pathway to the stars) camping experience revolves around an overnight stay on the resort’s nearby private island, Nanuku Island, and begins when resort staff take guests on the short trip aboard Nanuku 1 for an activity-filled afternoon.

This includes a host of options – from exploring the island with jet skis, swimming, snorkelling, kayaking paddle boarding – guests can even join their hosts, the resort’s team of ‘Nanuku Buddies’ in helping to catch and prepare the fresh fish, bamboo-pole cooked prawns and traditional ‘kokoda’ served for dinner.

Less strenuous activities include palm-frond hat and basket weaving, coconut scraping, searching for the elusive Hawksbeak turtles which inhabit the island – or simply relaxing.

As the sun sets and the ‘kalokalo’ (stars) begin to emerge, the ‘Buddies’ entertain guests with traditional songs and the sharing of centuries-old legends of Fiji.

Once dinner and the entertainment have been concluded the crew retire to the nearby-moored Nanuku 1 for the evening offering guests perfect privacy for the night – but not before leaving a ‘survival kit’, mobile phone and a Tiki torch pathway to a discreetly located and hurricane lamp-lit outhouse.

For those who wish to sleep undercover, weather-proof tents are an option but, according to general manager, Sascha Hemmann, most guests prefer to sleep under the ‘kalokalo’ in comfortable hammocks.

A highlight of the following morning – the arrival of ‘chef’ Hemmann aboard a jet ski to personally cook a delicious breakfast of pancakes, bacon and eggs, juices and fresh-brewed coffee and tea after which guests return to the resort.

The ‘Ki na kalokalo’ private island camping experience is available daily, contact the resort for pricing.

Pacific Harbour is renowned for its star-lit night skies, the calm waters of Beqa Lagoon forming a sky-to- horizon reflecting mirror earning the region its ‘pathway to the stars’ title.

Nanuku Auberge Resort Fiji Receives Major Condé Nast Johansens Accolade

Fiji’s first ever all villa boutique resort, Nanuku Auberge Resort Fiji has received  a major international accolade being named ‘Best Newcomer’ in the prestigious ‘2016 Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence’.

Adding further lustre to this impressive recognition, the Pacific Harbour-based luxury property was the only South Pacific resort to win an award in any of the several categories competed for this year.

Created to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across the hotels and resorts included in the influential Condé Nast Johansens ‘collection’, these much admired ‘Awards for Excellence’ are seen as a trusted mark of quality, recognised by luxury consumers and travel professionals alike.

Finalists are determined from the combined results of online voting on the Condé Nast Johansens website, guest feedback and local expert reportage.

Acknowledging the award, Nanuku Auberge Resort’s director of sales and marketing, Shashita Nand said the resort and all its staff were extremely proud to have played a role in helping to create a unique Fiji resort offering.

Since opening in March last year, she said, the resort had set a benchmark and taken the destination’s ability to deliver a luxury product to a whole new, world-class level.

“Nanuku is a very special place to stay and everyone involved, both our staff and the local community, have worked tirelessly to instil a truly unique ‘Spirit of Nanuku’ that embodies the real Fiji, its people and their incredible ‘living culture’,” Ms Nand said.

“This is more than demonstrated by the immense pride we all take in helping to ensure our guests have an experience of a lifetime when they stay with us.

“This award is true recognition of the resort’s ability to more than deliver that guest experience on every count.”

The 2016 Condé Nast Johansens Award for Excellence represents yet another major feather in the Nanuku Auberge Resort cap for 2015.

Earlier in the year the resort became the proud recipient of a TripAdvisor ‘Certificate of Excellence.

And just recently the resort was nominated finalists in the ‘Accommodation Luxury’, ‘Destination Marketing’ and the ‘Visitor Dining Experience’ categories at the ‘ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards’ which take place in February 2016.

Auberge Resorts Collection to Manage Nanuku Resort & Spa in Fiji

Renowned Resort Operator Expands to the South Pacific

MILL VALLEY, CALIF. (November 13, 2014) – Auberge Resorts Collection, owner and operator of boutique luxury hotels, resorts, residences and private clubs, announced today plans to manage Nanuku Resort and Spa, an ultra-luxury boutique resort that opened in March on Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu, and rebrand it Nanuku Auberge Resort Fiji http://nanukufiji.com/. The resort is owned by Bixby Bridge Capital, a Chicago-based real estate investment firm. Nanuku, the newest and most luxurious hospitality offering in Fiji, is acclaimed for its blend of contemporary luxury and traditional Fijian culture, its sense of outdoor adventure and highly personalized service.

“We are delighted to bring the Auberge brand to the Fiji Islands,” said Craig T. Reid, President and Chief Executive Officer, Auberge Resorts Collection. “This gem of a South Sea resort embraces all of the Auberge hallmarks: sensational locale, exceptional service and cuisine and guest experiences that inspire a sense of discovery. It is a natural partnership and an exciting addition to the Auberge Resorts Collection portfolio.”

A sanctuary for relaxation and discovery set on two of the island’s best beaches, Nanuku offers 18 Balinese-style suite and villa accommodations furnished with relaxed contemporary and Fijian décor and featuring expansive decks, private plunge pools and ocean views. Nanuku’s Club House is the private hub for Fiji resort guests and boasts beautifully landscaped gardens and sea views through a colonnade of handcrafted Fijian decorated posts. The chic Lomana Spa and Wellness Centre includes a fitness center (with personal trainer on standby), a hair salon, the Lailai Children’s Club, and a guest library. Guests may learn skills from local artisans in the Cakava Creative Workshop, from grass skirt weaving to tapa printing. The Kanavata Restaurant and Lounge Bar looks out across an infinity pool to an azure lagoon framed by coconut palms. The Sunset Deck is located poolside, and the Wai Pool Bar serves tropical drinks (including the resort’s legendary Nanuku caprioskas) infused with local ingredients.

The resort’s “Villa Mamas” (the term nods to the easy-going Fijian culture) provide thoughtful care for each guest, serving as a hybrid between a housekeeper and butler. Every family has a dedicated nanny. Attentive staff extends to the property’s food and beverage outlets, where guests may opt for a pre-arranged gourmet picnic on the beach or an alfresco barbeque by the pool. Each evening, the executive chef prepares a three-course menu crafted from the freshest of local and imported produce, resulting in a fabulous fusion of international and Fijian dishes.

Pacific Harbour is known as the Adventure Capital of Fiji, where world-class surfing and fishing are just a few feet from the villas’ doorsteps. Guests of Nanuku are privy to a host of activities from stand-up river rafting to hiking through the rainforest. One of the many adventures available at Nanuku is a waterfall hike, where guests may experience Fiji’s lush interior with a medicine man, who points out tidbits on the various local plants and traditional food-gathering techniques.

Nanuku’s Vunikau (Treehouse) Residence is perched atop a volcanic outcrop and overlooks the tranquil Beqa Lagoon. Made up of four suites, the Vunikau Residence is comprised of the Penthouse Suite and three Vunikau Suites, which can be used exclusively or on a stand-alone basis. Each Vunikau Suite is separately keyed and has private access off a shared breezeway.

Plans for Nanuku include a limited number of private beachfront residences that will be developed and offered for purchase. Each Nanuku Ocean Estates residence will be oriented toward the shore to capture ocean breezes and panoramic views.

This is a rare opportunity in Fiji, where just 9 percent of the land is available for private residential ownership. When designed and constructed to Auberge standards, the villas may be included in Nanuku’s rental program and Auberge Resorts’ home-exchange program

Nanuku offers its own private airstrip and is a 20-minute scenic flight from Nadi Airport. Upon landing, guests are transferred by private car to the resort a few minutes away.

Rates at Nanuku begin at $756 and include all meals, villa mama and nanny service, golf buggy, Wifi, non-motorized water sports, daily-hosted drinks and canapés and more.  For more information, visit http://nanukufiji.com or call +679 345 2100.
